Fifteen minutes in and only halfway up, our bare feet sunk deeper and deeper into the ancient sands, and we paused to look out across a vast swathe of orange mounds; with pinnacles as high as small mountains. There was a persistent breeze in the air as it whipped up flurries of sand, dancing around us, sculpting and shaping the boundless landscape. By the time we reached the top, sunset was midpoint, the air turned warmer and our eyes were fixated, as we grasped at the immeasurable scale and beauty stretching out beyond the horizon….the mighty dunes of Sossusvlei.
This was just one of many highlights on our trip to Namibia. We traveled for 30 days in a fully equipped 4×4, spending our nights up top, in a rooftop tent. It was a journey that took us across some of the most remote terrain on the planet, we loved every minute and we welcomed the barren landscapes and unshakable sense of isolation.
Our adventure took us from the very bottom of the country where we explored the vastness of Fish River Canyon, all the way to the very tip across the steamy plains of the Caprivi Strip. We explored quirky German villages and abandoned mining towns, observed incredible wildlife, trekked deep into the Kalahari bush and slept below an African sky filled with a billion, brightly-lit stars. Believe us when we say it’s literally the best country in the world for a road trip!
We tried to capture the beauty and the starkness of the landscapes in our pictures, as we hope to inspire you to visit this incredible country.
