After spending 7 nights in the bustling tourist hub of Yangshuo, arriving in Xingping came as a breath of fresh air – having smaller crowds and way fewer touts!
Despite the droves of day tours that frequent the area, the ancient town still retains much of its charm, and the surrounding backdrop of the Li River, and towering limestone karsts look like something straight out of a fairy-tale.
We’d spent two weeks dodging crowds in Kyoto, before all the bustle of the Takayama Festival, and were definitely in need of a much slower pace….. Enter Kanazawa, somewhere we hadn’t really researched all that much, somewhere that surprised us!
It’s your first time in Japan, you’re still wired after the buzz and bright lights of Tokyo, and in much need of some respite from the crowds. I hate to break it to you but the words out on the former capital, and as a result Kyoto at times can feel a little crowded and overwhelming. That doesn’t mean a trip to Kyoto can’t be enjoyable!
Sensory overload……Tokyo, a vast sprawling metropolis of everything modern and hi-tech, full of old temples, quirky shrines and top-notch cuisine, a city that dazzles its enchanted visitors with bright lights and a unique blend of old and new. A city that I hope we re-visit for the rest of our lives.
The Mardi Himal Trek in Nepal is relatively new (opened back in 2012), unspoiled and at the time of writing a lot less crowded than some of the other more popular routes such as the Everest Base Camp and the Annapurna Circuit.
If there’s one place animal lovers should visit at least once in their life it’s Kruger National Park in South Africa. Kruger has the Big 5 in abundance as well as a plethora of other animals and bird-life. It delivers an enthralling safari experience that will stay with you forever.
